CHIEF HARLEY CHAPPELL

Harley Chappell was elected to serve as Chief of the Semiahmoo First Nation in 2016.  He married wife Rachael in 2008, and together they have three sons, Brandyn, Jace, and Thales, and one daughter, Kimora. 

As Chief, he has been a strong advocate for reviving the local shellfish population, revitalizing the Semiahmoo language and culture, ensuring good stewardship of oceans, rivers and lands, and improving relationships with municipal and indigenous partners in the region. 

In addition to serving as Chief, Chappell is also the owner and instructor of Pacific Top Team Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Chilliwack.

COUNCILLOR JOANNE CHARLES

Joanne Charles was re-elected to serve on the Council for the Semiahmoo First Nation in 2016.  After speaking out for years about the urgent need to improve water and sewage infrastructure on the Nation, Charles has been instrumental in reaching a municipal services agreement with the City of Surrey in 2018.  

In addition to her role on Council, Charles also heads the band office, where she often serves as official spokesperson when Chief Chappell is not available.

COUNCILLOR JENNINE COOK

Jennine Cook was elected into council in December 2018. Jennine has a passion for business and development and is committed to building new relationships that will help the nation prosper, while preserving the sanctity of the Semiahmoo lands.

In 2014, Cook was the recipient of the “Aboriginal Business of the Year” award through the BC Achievement Foundation for her business, Pure Beauty Ltd., located on the Semiahmoo First Nation.

Her early post-secondary education includes Business Management and multi-media studies, and more recently, the Ch’Nook Aboriginal Management Program at UBC. Jennine resides in South Surrey with her husband and two daughters.
